Hearts-a-Bustin' — Euonymus americana — (May 19, 2008) This small shrub is easy to spot along the Henry Hollow creek side trail. Its dark green stems and leathery leaves are very distinctive. The blooms appear, at first glance, to be growing out of the middle of the leaves, but upon closer inspection can be seen to be attached by a very thin stem to the plant at the leaf axils and merely lie close to the leaf’s surface. |
