HummingBirdJoePye_0590.jpg - Hollow-stemmed Joe Pye Weed — Eupatorium fistulosum — (August 17, 2009) Joe Pye was an herbalist and healer who studied Native American medicine during the colonial period in North America. Admittedly this is more a photo of a Ruby Throated Hummingbird feeding on a Hollow-stemmed Joe Pye Weed, but I liked it. Along with Spotted Joe Pye Weed, this genus is a common plant in the park. This species often grows to seven feet or more and was often used to treat kidney stones in the 19th century.
